The House of Blues was packed for Laufey who took the stage this Tuesday. Adam Melchor opened as a solo act, playing the guitar. The acoustic set, in conjunction with his great songwriting, felt like an great way to start the evening. He also played as a part of Laufey’s ensemble which consisted of cello, piano, drums, and guitar. She took the stage surrounded by her ensemble and beautiful set. The backdrop appeared like a starry sky and the encompassing stage lighting changed dynamically throughout the set. All of it served to compliment the lovely nature of her vocals and performance. During the set Laufey switched between singing (allowing her to move more freely around the stage), playing guitar, playing piano, and playing cello. She did almost a third of the set on piano. She mentioned during the set that she had challenged herself to compose a piano piece which she then performed beautifully. She thanked the crowd for allowing her to express herself freely through music. The set was a beautiful example of how she marries different genres with Jazz, Blues, Pop, and Alternative flares. It seemed to bring her vision to life in a way that cannot always be conveyed over recorded music.
