Philadelphia welcomed Sam Smith with a packed house of screaming fans as he emerged atop a giant golden statue of the goddess of love, Aphrodite. Sam Smith is one of a kind when it comes to creating a show that’s convincing and theatrical with his new tour, Gloria. The action packed concert doesn’t leave anything behind with 21 full songs scattered over three acts, each with different themes and outfit changes. The amount of lavishness and opulence put into the stage production alone was like watching a one man play. Stagecraft aside, the centerpiece of the whole experience was hearing his rich luxurious voice, especially on songs like “How Do You Sleep,” and “Not the Only One.” Not only did Sam Smith create an engaging large scale theatrical show, but he also maintained an intimate experience for fans while continuing to push the norm.
