The Band CAMINO knows how to put on a show, and last weekend’s sold-out gig at NYC’s Brooklyn Paramount was no exception. I’ve been lucky enough to see the Tennessee indie group the last three times they’ve played up in the northeast, and every time I see why they easily sell out these 5000+ person venues. The line wrapped around the venue before doors opened, even in the very chilly weather NYC had seen that day.
The band made two fantastic choices to open up the show, starting off early with indie artist Ethan Tasch. Tasch and his band members played a short set of his original music that was received well by the audience and got them moving before the second support act, Almost Monday, took the stage after them. Almost Monday is another group I’ve seen a handful of times, and it’s hard to find someone with more energy than their lead singer Dawson Daugherty. They played a quite long 10+ song set, which of course included their hits like “can’t slow down,” “sunburn,” and “lost.”

It was a bit of a late night in Brooklyn when The Band CAMINO took the stage around 9:15pm, but they started off strong launching right into their hit “Daphne Blue” as the opening song. Bright colorful lights, drummer Garrison Burgess suspended on a platform made of a mirror where the first few rows of fans could see themselves, and light discs at the back of the stage that NYC concertgoers would find reminiscent of the Baby’s All Right backdrop were just a few elements of the gorgeous set design. Singer Jeffrey Jordan commented earlier in the set that this was “the prettiest venue we’ve played,” commenting on the gorgeous high ceilings and old theater architecture that can be found in the venue. Next up was “Infinity,” the closing song off of NeverAlways, the band’s latest album which was released this summer. “Hush Hush” off of tryhard wrapped up the first 3 songs, throwing it back to their debut album in 2019.
Although this is technically “The NeverAlways Tour,” The Band CAMINO did a meticulous job crafting a setlist that included songs from all their eras. They’ve released 4 studio albums, and they made sure to include at least 2 songs from each of them, as well as a handful of singles they’ve released sprinkled between (like “2/14” in the first part of the set).

Around halfway through the set, the band sat together in the center of the stage for a campfire-esque acoustic set. 2017’s “Berenstein” was first, followed by “Hates Me Yet (222)” off the new album. Their “one cover of the night,” as Jordan announced, was “DAISIES” by Justin Bieber to wrap up this portion of the night. The band came back in full electric force with “Karaoke,” “What Am I Missing?,” and “Heaven” before moving on to what seems to be the “surprise song” slot on the tour. Previous contenders had been “Pieces” and “Never a Good Time.” Tonight’s audience got to see “Underneath My Skin” off the band’s self-titled album, a personal favorite that I was happy to hear live.
The band wrapped up the show with “1 Last Cigarette” and “See Through,” as well as a 2-song encore of “12:34” and “What I Want” before leaving the stage for the night. The NeverAlways Tour continues for a few more shows in the midwest and the east coast, grab your tickets before it’s too late!
