Sam Holden otherwise known as Del Water Gap, made his way to San Francisco to play a sold out show at the historic Fillmore Theater for the I Miss You Already + I Haven’t Left Yet tour. It’s been so great to see how much momentum he’s gained since his last show in the city when he opened up for Maggie Rogers earlier this year at the Bill Graham Civic Center.

The line to get into the show wrapped around the block, with many having shown up hours early with hopes of snagging a front row spot. This was definitely a younger crowd, but with that came A LOT of energy. As soon as the venue doors opened, everyone tried rushing to the barricade to secure their spot up front.

Opening up for Del Water Gap on this tour was Kristiane, who brought her dreamy bedroom shoegaze pop to kick off the night. Joined by a single bassist on stage, the moody lighting and the soft singing- there was definitely a calmness in the room.

The lights dimmed and the crowd started to roar. At the center of the back of the stage appeared a silhouette and Sam danced his way down to the foot of the stage. The stage was set up to look like you were looking into someones bedroom, complete with a twin size bed and Television set. The way he ran from one end of the stage to another was making the photographers in the pit work for their shots. You’d think the amount of movement on the stage would affect his singing, but he didn’t skip a beat and even had the whole crowd singing along to all his songs. The encore consisted of We Will Never Be Like Anybody Else and the hit Ode to a Conversation Stuck in Your Throat, which had everyone singing at the top of their lungs. Anyone that’s been to a show at the Fillmore, knows that every sold out show gets its own commemorative poster designed by a local artist.

The next leg of the tour continues in January where he’ll be touring Europe.
