NIKI finished her Texas tour dates for her Buzz World Tour in Irving over the weekend. NIKI delivered a beautiful set with a mix of melodic, edgy, rock and indie instrumentals.
NIKI notes, “The album is called Buzz because it signifies that something is about to happen. The promise of something new, when it isn’t real yet, hangs rich and sweet in the air. That millisecond moment in time, suspended in vast suggestion, where there is every opportunity for a shift in trajectory. Small or seismic. You choose.”
The evening started with NIKI and the band jamming out the intro to “Too Much Of A Good Thing” and it was captivating, her stage presence was undeniable even from the start of the show. The stage design was soft, beautiful and changed patterns throughout the setlist to match the emotions of each song.
One of the highlights of the evening was NIKI bringing out the opener, Allison Ponthier, to cover Kacey Musgraves “Follow Your Arrow” while wearing cowboy hats. The crowd’s energy was beaming in joy and cheering for the Texas representation.
During the middle of the set she sang “Do You Like Her In The Morning?”, which was originally written in 2019. It was a very moving performance and NIKI shared via TikTok “The song is a poignant reflection on love, memory, and the pain of feeling like you’re living and breathing in the shadow of someone else.”
I loved how engaged the band was and NIKI switching guitars between songs. At one point, her stage hand came out in a Buc-ee’s costume and the crowd went wild. NIKI couldn’t stop laughing and asked the fans what type of animal Buc-ee was in which everyone screamed “Beaver”.
Before closing the night NIKI performed “High School in Jakarta” which felt nostalgic of high school relationships. Fans even brought an Indonesian flag, waved it throughout the entire song and NIKI shouted them out afterward. She thanked the crowd for making her final night in Texas so fun before ending the night with “Buzz”.
The show was incredible, it was amazing to hear NIKI’s vocal range, guitar shredding, fans singing every word and the different emotions she was able to make you feel through every song.
