It was almost monday for about an hour last Wednesday in Allston, where trio Dawson Daugherty, Luke Fabry and Cole Clisby brought the energy promoting their band’s debut album DIVE. And it was a night full of firsts – support act Adrian Lyles let us know that this run with Almost Monday is his first tour, and he knocked it out of the park with his high-energy opening set to get the crowd ready for the main act of the night.

The set opened up with an electric performance of “dive,” the lead track off of the album. I don’t think lead singer Daugherty stopped moving and dancing around for the entire night. He ran back and forth along the stage (well, as much as you can on Brighton Music Hall’s little stage), kicked up his legs, and took part in all sorts of silly dance moves as he and the band kept the audience engaged in the show. Following “dive” were the next two songs on the album: “is it too late?” and “never enough.”

Despite the small discography, almost monday made sure to give fans a packed show. By the time the set was over, they had played the entirety of their new record, along with some of their earlier singles like “cough drops” and “only wanna dance.” This was my third time seeing them, having previously seen them open for The Driver Era and AJR. It was awesome to see them put on their own headline show to their own audience, and I imagine they’ll be playing bigger venues around Boston in no time.
