Rubblebucket brought their “Year of the Banana” tour to Webster Hall in New York City this week. This being the band’s hometown show, demand was high, and the floor was packed wall to wall. Rubblebucket’s performance of each song read like acts in a play. They performed choreographed dances as if telling stories with their movements. Each song incorporated theatrical elements, such as the giant structure behind them clad with flowers, moss, and even a waterfall through which they emerged at the start of the performance. They even paused in between songs to read poems from their poetry book. The joy on each audience member’s face was palpable upon scanning the crowd from above. The energy in the air was just as colorful as that of the set itself.
