Summer in New York City just doesn’t feel complete without a trip to Governors Ball. The city’s elite summer festival returns in June to the Citi Field complex in Queens. In it’s eleventh year, the lineup leans heavier on hip hop, electronic and pop acts, and completes the package with a great roster of food and drink partners.

The Key Details

The Citi Field location is easy to access of the MTA’s 7 Train, with shows running from around noon to 10 pm each night. From there, hop back on the subway and make your towards one of the After Dark shows, like Soccer Mommy at the Bowery Ballroom on Friday or Kaytranada DJing at Elsewhere on Saturday.

Limited 3-Day and Single Day tickets are available while supplies last via GovBall.com. Three day GA tickets are priced at $319.00 plus fees, and VIP is currently priced at $659.00 plus fees and includes free water, dedicated viewing areas with wifi, a fast lane for entry, and more. Or, ball out and go Platinum to receive top tier viewing areas, free food and beverage all weekend, and more..

The Lineup

Our favorite thing about this year’s lineup is the strength of the headliners. Kid Cudi kicks things off (along with Jack Harlow and Migos), then Saturday sees a hometown show from Halsey, and J. Cole closes things out on Sunday.

Sunday is the most diverse lineup, with Japanese Breakfast, Soccer Mommy and Clairo bringing indie rock, Glass Animals and Kaytranada keeping things funky, and rising acts like Del Water Gap also on the bill.

Tove Lo, Duckwrth, and Diesel (AKA Shaq) are a few other highlights on the bill.

Our Top Sets To Catch

1. Halsey. There ain’t no party like a hometown party, and Halsey closing out Saturday night is a show worth catching. Set times were recently released and she goes head to head with Flume. Our suggestion: start off in the crowd at the Flume show, dance and groove a bit, then find a nice spot at Halsey to sing along and close out your night.

2. Jack Harlow (and The Knocks before) on Friday. Sure, it’s two acts, but the back to back combo of these hitmakers will be a perfect opening night vibe. We always love to see a smaller stage headliner, and Harlow, who could have easily been the closer on one of the three days, will definitely draw in a big crowd. Get there earlier, hang out with the Knocks, and settle in to a good spot.

3. Japanese Breakfast, Glass Animals and Kaytranada on Sunday. It’s an indie kids dream. Fresh off Grammy nominations, Glass Animals and Japanese Breakfast will be a nice break from hip hop and pop sets. Then, get right back into it with Kaytranada as the sun sets.

The Food

Ah… the food. Governor’s Ball always crushes in this department, and 2022 will be no different. The city’s hottest and most popular spots such as Van Leeuwen Ice Cream, Lobster Joint, Roberta’s Pizza and Sweet Chick will all be on the grounds to offer you a much needed break from the dancing. Beyond multiple free water stations throughout the grounds, there will be plenty of options on hand for ice cold drinks or libation. Music lovers can cool off with a Matcha lemonade from MatchaBar, or a fresh pressed offering from John’s Juice.

If your wallet is hurting, festival partners Dunkin’ and MorningStar Farms will also be on hand at Governors Ball with samples for all. Millions of New Yorkers’ start their daily routine with Dunkin’ and that’s no different whether you’re headed to work or a kick ass music festival. Governors Ball patrons can stop by the Dunkin’ activation all weekend long for a treat or two to refuel on their way to the next set. MorningStar Farms have been making it tasty (and easy) to eat plant-based for 48 years and counting. Fans can pop by their set-up at the festival to sample their delicious plant-based Chik’n Tenders and Veggie Pepperoni Pizza Bites for a quick and yummy snack.
